June 2011 – Top 10

Well, after Feed Me, I knew it was going to be a solid month for EDM. Unfortunately, I completely missed out on LA Riots at Mod Club, marking their first residency show, but thankfully I’ll be able to make up for this another time. This month saw a ton of incredible releases and some oldies creeping their way back into my rotation, so let’s jump in.

10. Rogerseventytwo – You Take Me Higher
A-Trak has been loving this song for over a year now, pulling it out at every event he can. Surprisingly, this track hadn’t been signed until this month, and who do you think picked it up? Fool's Gold.

9. Felguk – Blow Out
This track had a lot of buzz around it in the blogosphere, I know very little about Felguk, but this is someone you need to watch out for if he keeps outputting quality tracks like this. That electric guitar just before the drop, oh man.

8. Mord Fustang – A New World
A surprise, for me atleast, with this track. His rise to the top has been quick, dominating Beatport with every track he releases, but Mord Fustang hasn't exactly been my cup of tea. This track simply can’t be disregarded, vocals, build up, and infectious dubstep, A New World is right up my alley.

7. Ellie Goulding vs Daft Punk – There’s Something About Us Under The Sheets
Mashups and I don’t get along. This is an exception. Ellie Goulding’s vocals and Daft Punk’s chill out vibe mix perfectly. Baby making music.

6. Steve Angello – Rave & Roll (Nom De Strip Remix)
Nom de Strip has been a little bit of enigma, his releases are quality, and yet his popularity seems to not be increasing as much as I thought it would. This man deserves so much more credit then he gets. With releases like De Piano, Just Keep Crazy, and Without You, his talent ranges wide. This remix proves my point.

5. Sebastien Tellier – L’amour et la Violence (Boys Noize Remix)
This song has a special place in my heart, the progressive house feel, the hypnotizing vocals, the signature Boys Noize electro touches of brilliance, this song is it for me. I’ve been listening to this one for a very long time and will never get sick of it.

4. Myd – Octodip
Marble has been fueled by Surkin, Bobmo and Para One, all artists I am inspired by and respect. They push the boundaries of EDM, trying to categorize their music into a genre is near impossible. The fourth release from the label is from Myd. Many people have crowned Javier as the winner of this release, but Octodip just seems to deliver the goods for me.

3. Siriusmo – Hello DJ
Now this is an intriguing one. Siriusmo has recently released 42 unreleased tracks on Beatport, ranging from 2000-2010. First of all, how the hell am I supposed to run down all these tracks? Being a starving student sucks. Secondly, the different sounds from track to track is interesting, you can tell Siriusmo definitely has an affliction to experiment. This one’s a noisey one, be prepared.

2. D.I.M. & Tai – Ion
I know I know, my love for BNR tracks is kind of creepy, but seriously how can you not like what D.I.M. & Tai are doing? Lyposuct was absolutely huge, and Ion fails to disappoint.

1. SomethingALaMode - Versailles No Bara (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)
The Bloody Beetroots never cease to amaze me. I thought the evolution of my musical taste had left these guys behind, and then I hear this. The vocals are chilling, and the track just goes in HARD, while still using the piano and synthesizer to their full potential. I could go on and on about this track, just listen and enjoy.

And to end it all off, a freebie from OMGITM (Oh My God It’s Techno Music), if you aren't subscribed to this podcast yet you are doing yourself a disservice. Moonbootica recently took over mixing duties for their podcast, and did I ever enjoy it.

Feed Me – Mod Club Saturday, June 3rd, 2011

First time at Mod Club, and I think I fell in love. This’ll be my first review of an event, and was it ever something special. Leading up to this, I had been consuming Feed Me tracks as much as possible, but this man pulled out all the stops.

To start off the night there was a duo up on stage, Dooze Jackers (Thanks Paul), immediately, me and my friends set up right next to stage, where we feel most comfortable. The duo, initially had me wondering who they were. They played a couple good tracks, but on further listen, they were generic electro with little to no personality.

During the sub par opening act, I actually had the pleasure to meet the guys over at The Worst Guy Blog, I follow them religiously and probably made an absolute fool of myself infront of them, naturally being a couple drinks in. These Waterloo bloggers are truly committed to EDM, and I recommend, HIGHLY, to go check them out.

At this time some guy decided it was a good idea to piss on the stage, truthfully I was howling, but others in the area didn’t share my sense of humour. This left the right of the stage with much more room, and in the end I was thanking him.

But the music! Easily the best track the uninspiring duo dropped was Mush, Mush by Bassjackers. This banger has been on constant rotation for me, and had me foaming at the mouth for more. This was the time Feed Me came on and the crowd started going insane. Chants of ‘Feed Me’ echoed throughout the Mod Club, and this is when the real night began, opening up with Green Bottle.

He followed up with so many incredible tracks, I actually lost track. Grand Theft Ecstasy, Cloudburn, Talk to Me, Muscle Rollers, and other crowd favourites. Feed Me had the place going absolutely ballistic. I was actually most surprised when he threw in a drum & bass track in there later on in his set, and did so seamlessly.

Now easily the most insane part of the show was when Feed Me dropped Skrillex’s Reptile Theme. This track is absolutely monstrous, combining my love of dubstep, with my true love, video games, PERFECTLY. Craziness ensued, Feed Me began crowd surfing at the drop of the next track, scaring the shit out of the security while he was at it, but man was it ever awesome.

At the ending of his set, Feed Me came right over to the speaker I had latched on to the entire night, not moving an inch except to go crazy over the bangers, shook my hand and gave me a couple stickers. My friends then goated me into do a little crowd surfing myself while Feed Me was up there, so I got up shook Feed Me’s hand again and went for it. I know nothing huge right?

To sum up, a perfect night is perfect. Thank you Feed Me for that incredible show.

First Blog - May 2011 Top 10 Chart

I, Thomas Trindade aka Deadly, a huge EDM (Electronic Dance Music) fanatic, have had the idea to blog my adventures through the catacombs, the present, and the future of EDM for a long time. I find that my music taste is eclectic, enjoying many different genres. You name a genre in EDM, I probably enjoy it, the obscure, the hipster choice of the moment, house, trance, electro, dubstep, anything EDM and I would like to share this love with the people willing to read.

I’m going to start with Top 10 lists of the month, not necessarily being released in the said month, but what I am in love with, and then I will continue on when I feel it is time (hopefully) to blog about events attended and artists you should check out.

So with no further a due, here is my Top 10 for May 2011.

10. Control Your Tuba – LA Riots
Fool’s Gold, as a whole, is impressive to say the least. With the likes of A Trak, Armand van Helden, LA Riots, Congorock and so many more signed to the label, expect more from them in future blog posts. This one, once again being a little older, has seen a resurrection in my music library, an interesting take on tech house.

9. Kontact Me – Boys Noize (Rynecologist Turbine Remix)
This one being one of the older tracks on this list is the reason why it is where it is. Boys Noize has been opening up with this track, remixed by BNR (Boys Noize Records) and Toronto’s own Rynecologist, for some time now, but still delivers that same punch I experienced the first time I heard it.

8. Tonight (Herve Voodoo Chilli Remix) – Moonbotica
Straight up house on this one, just listen to those lyrics and that infectious beat and try not to move.

7. Rollin' & Scratchin' (Chilly Gonzales Piano Rework) - Daft Punk
Over the past few months I’ve been delving deeper into this musical genious, and enjoying every minute of it. Chilly has such a storied career, producing for some of the biggest artists in the business, and his piano reworks are an absolute mind fuck of awesomeness. Inspirational to say the very least.

6. Sexx – Style of Eye
Admittedly, my progressive intake has been slow recently, but this track is something special. Maybe it's the faux-vocals, maybe it's the horns? I don't know, just listen and enjoy.

5. Solar – Felix Cartal & Keatch
This one’s got that summer vibe, and with that shitty weather outside this month, god do I ever need it. Progressive feel with Felix Cartal’s, a Canadian nonetheless, electro touch, absolute gold.

4. The End – Tommy Trash
One of those tracks where everything comes together so perfectly, you can’t ignore it.

3. Reptile’s Theme - Skrillex
Seems like my list just wouldn’t be right without this track. Mortal Kombat’s soundtrack, produced by JFK of MSTRKRFT, was filled with EDM goodness. Skrillex’s track easily being the best of the lot.

2. Listen to This – Harvard Bass & Bart B More
This track was released on BNR’s ‘Miami Noize’ and ever since it’s came out it’s been on constant rotation on my Itunes. Harvard Bass & Bart B More deliver the electronic goods on this one.

1. Kindercut – SebastiAn
What can I say about Ed Banger’s Records, nothing but incredible creativity in EDM. When SebastiAn’s first single, Embody, was released, I was incredibly excited, but after a lengthy listen, came to be disappointed. With the recent leak of his newest releases, the legend himself made up for, what I thought, a lackluster first single. This track has SebastiAn written all over it, and I’m loving every second.
